FACTORS AFFECTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTIONS IN IMO STATE
Abstract
The study investigated the factors affecting entrepreneurship Education in teacher training Institutions. The study was carried out in Imo State using Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Owerri since it has both Degree and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) students. Based on the objectives of the study, two research questions and a hypothesis guided the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. A sample of 400 students
was drawn for the study through stratified random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a researcher-made Likert 4-points questionnaire titled: “Factors Affecting Entrepreneurship Education (FAEE)”. It had reliability coefficient of 0.85 determined using cronbach’s alpha formula. The data generated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions while the hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance using ttest statistical tool. The result of the study revealed among others, that lack of qualified teaching personnel (mean=3.50, 3.43), lack of facilities in the institutions (mean=3.20, 3.15), lack of technical manpower (mean=3.13, 3.21), lack of financial support from the Government, poor attitude towards the programme, as factors affecting the success of Entrepreneurship Education in teacher training Institutions in Imo State. Based on the result of the study, it was recommended that, The Government should support teacher training Institutions through provision of fund and infrastructures to enable them achieve success in entrepreneurship education.
